Dès le commencement de la guerre, la standardisation et la rationalisation sont les forces de l’industrie américaine. Stabilité des matériels, versions spécialisées limitées (quoique…). Tout concourt à la recherche des volumes et des cadences. L’efficience industrielle contre la suprématie technologique – un choix stratégique payant à partir du moment où l’Armée Rouge lamine en permanence les ressources humaines et militaires de l’Allemagne. Ce choix permet aussi un spectaculaire réarmement et est la condition pour devenir l’arsenal des autres pays en guerre contre le III. Reich. D’un point de vue éditorial, l’avantage est que les principaux matériels américains utilisés au combat tiennent en un seul volume : chars, véhicules blindés, véhicules de servitude, camions, canons de campagne, canons antichars et même armement individuel, même si pour ce dernier point cela fait un peu redondant avec les hors-série consacrés à l’infanterie chez Ligne de Front (cf. hors-série n°24 et 30).
Chaque matériel est brièvement décrit sur une page, parfois sur une demie, sans faire de compromis sur l’iconographie (photos, plans et profils couleurs). L’exercice de synthèse est rondement mené. Encore un excellent numéro de fond de bibliothèque, guide idéal pour tous ceux qui s’intéressent à la Seconde Guerre mondiale.
